SULO RECYCLING PARK
LOCATED ON CLONMACNOISE ROAD BESIDE GARDA STATION
The Recycling Park contains four Sulo Iceberg Eco System Units. This German engineered system is the first to be installed in Ireland. The unique feature of this system is that the majority of the storage tank is held underground. The visible upper part of the system is easily recognized as a waste collection facility and is shaped liked a normal domestic recycling bin. Other features include gravity compression of waste to the bottom of the unit, thus greater storage space is available. Coolness of the earth helps prevent odours and there are savings due to longer emptying intervals. Each unit is fitted with a telecommunications system that feeds information back to the Recycling Operator when the unit is full and needs to be emptied. The result will be fewer kilometers driving empty containers, which in turn leads to less fuel consumption, reduced greenhouse gases and positive contribution to carbon emissions. The comfortable height of the unit makes it easy for all to access. It is hoped Ballinahown will become a centre for best practice in recycling management in Ireland. The Sulo Units are beautifully complemented by signage in both English and Irish with graphics clearly outlining how the Recycling Park operates
